Neue Burg audio tour review

My verdict: the cheapest way into the palace interiors, and the one I recommend to anyone with an hour and modest expectations. You get three collections under one roof with an audio guide that does what it says — no more, no less. It’s also the only product on this site that’s wheelchair accessible, which by Hofburg standards is worth underlining twice.
What the ticket actually is
An audio-guided visit to the Neue Burg, the big curved wing on Heldenplatz. Inside: the Weltmuseum Wien, the Imperial Armoury with its armour and weapons, and the Old Musical Instruments collection, which holds a fortepiano Mozart played and the life wax bust of Joseph Haydn. You collect the ticket at the Weltmuseum Wien desk on Heldenplatz, take an audio guide in one of nine languages, and go at your own pace — the listed hour is honest, though the Armoury can absorb more if arms and armour are your thing. What else the complex holds is on what’s inside the Hofburg.
What booked travellers say
Keith (UK) filed the driest review I’ve seen on any Hofburg product: “they said it would take an hour… it took 1 hour”. Melissa (AU) reported the “voucher exchange easy” and that “the armoury was brilliant”. Salomé (FR) named Betina in her review with thanks — the staff at the desk clearly leave an impression. The 4.0 rating reads to me as accurate rather than alarming: people get an hour of good collections for €23, and nobody claims it changed their life.
What works
- Cheapest interior ticket in the complex at €23
- Three collections, including the Mozart fortepiano and the Haydn wax bust
- Wheelchair accessible — alone among the products reviewed here
- Audio guide in nine languages
- The listed hour is accurate — it fits between other plans
- Free cancellation up to 24 hours before
Worth knowing
- No live guide — questions go unanswered
- Doesn’t include the Sisi Museum, the apartments or the Treasury
- An hour is a ceiling for some visitors and a floor for armour enthusiasts — budget accordingly
If you think you’ll also want the Treasury, buy the €34 combo instead of two separate tickets — it adds the crowns for €11 and is valid ten days. The comparison is in the combo review.
Who should book it, who shouldn’t
Book it if you want palace interiors on a budget, if you’re filling an hour near Heldenplatz, or if step-free access decides things for you. Skip it if Sisi is the reason you’re coming — her museum needs its own ticket, and the flagship tour review covers the guided way in. The other self-guided options are compared on the entry tickets page.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Neue Burg audio tour worth €23?
For an hour of the Weltmuseum, the Armoury and the instrument collection, yes — it’s the cheapest interior ticket in the complex. If you also want the Treasury, the €34 combo is the better buy.
Does it include the Sisi Museum?
No. The Sisi Museum and Imperial Apartments sell their own ticket at the Michaelerkuppel — there is no single ticket for the whole Hofburg. The five-ticket breakdown is on tickets and prices.
Where do I collect the ticket?
At the Weltmuseum Wien desk on Heldenplatz. Trams 1, 2, D and 71 stop at Burgring right by Heldenplatz — see getting to the Hofburg.
Is it wheelchair accessible?
Yes — the Neue Burg audio tour is wheelchair accessible, which the guided Sisi Museum tours are not.
